SUMMARY:Mothering Boys: Heal Our Bodies & Raise the Sons Our World Needs
DESCRIPTION:When a mother is depleted\, her son often carries it — showing up as dysregulation\, aggression\, or a vulnerability to the wrong influences. In this free online conversation\, three practitioners come together to explore the link between maternal nervous system health and the emotional development of boys\, drawing on Eastern medicine\, somatic wisdom\, and decades of work with young people. \nDr. Claudia Welch\, a educator in Ayurveda\, Doctor of Oriental Medicine and author of Balance Your Hormones\, Balance Your Life\, will speak to how women’s depletion patterns — what Ayurveda calls yin depletion — shape the households and children around them. Courtney LaCava\, an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Somatic Guide with 25 years of experience\, will share how mothers can restore their own vitality while raising resilient sons\, bridging ancestral practice with modern parenting. Mark Morey\, who has spent 60 years developing human-potential and nature-based programs — including 18 years leading boys’ initiation rites through the Vermont Wilderness School and Art of Mentoring — will bring the perspective of community\, mentorship\, and rites of passage. \nTogether they’ll discuss mothering from “Source energy” rather than stress energy\, why community-based rites of passage matter for boys\, and practical ways women can begin restoring themselves — not just for their own sake\, but for the sake of the sons they’re raising. \nThis conversation is for mothers of boys\, and for practitioners who work with women and want a deeper understanding of the connection between maternal health and child development. \nRegistration is free and reserves your spot; a recording will be sent to everyone who registers\, so you can attend live or watch later.

SUMMARY:Vedic Threads Series: Vaiśeṣika – Ancient India’s Map of Reality
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr Ramkumar Kutty\, Dr Claudia Welch\, and Navneet Raman in conversation with guest instructor Dr Rishi Manivannan for a four-part Vedic Threads series exploring Vaiśeṣika\, one of the six classical darśanas of India. \nAlthough Vaiśeṣika is one of India’s major philosophical traditions\, it is often given only a brief introduction—or overlooked altogether—in many modern presentations of the six darśanas. This series offers a rare opportunity to become acquainted with this profound system of thought. \nVaiśeṣika offers a remarkably detailed way of understanding reality. Through careful observation and analysis\, it explores the nature of matter\, mind\, self\, and liberation\, inviting us to examine how we know the world and how clear understanding can become a path toward freedom. \nAcross four sessions\, participants will explore questions including: \n* What is reality made of?\n* How do we truly know something?\n* Why is everything unique?\n* What is the relationship between matter\, mind\, and self?\n* Can clear understanding become a path to liberation? \n⸻ \nGuest Instructor \nDr Rishi Manivannan \nDr Rishi Manivannan comes from a traditional Idiga viṣavaidya lineage and has formally studied Āyurveda and Chinese medicine. He has also trained extensively in Siddha\, Śaiva Tantra\, Vāsi Yoga\, Nāḍī Vidyā\, Jyotiṣa\, Pañcapakṣi\, Vāstu\, and other traditional Indian systems of knowledge. \nHis background in Siddha and Āyurveda brings a unique perspective to Vaiśeṣika\, presenting it not only as a philosophical system but as a living way of observing reality\, the body\, the mind\, nature\, healing\, and the self. \n⸻ \nSession Schedule \nSession 1 \nSeeing the World as It Is: The Art of Clear Perception \nDate: Thursday\, 2 July 2026 \nVaiśeṣika begins with a simple yet profound question: What does it mean to see reality clearly? \nThis opening session introduces Vaiśeṣika as a discipline of careful observation\, precision\, and discernment\, helping us examine what is actually present\, how knowledge arises\, and how reality may be understood without confusion. \n⸻ \nSession 2 \nWhat Is the World Made Of? Substance\, Qualities\, and Change \nDate: Thursday\, 16 July 2026 \nThis session explores how Vaiśeṣika understands substances\, qualities\, and transformation. Participants will examine how everything we encounter possesses qualities\, undergoes change\, and can be understood through careful observation. \n⸻ \nSession 3 \nWhy Is Everything Unique? Similarity\, Difference\, and Connection \nDate: Thursday\, 6 August 2026 \nThis session explores how Vaiśeṣika explains shared identity\, individual uniqueness\, and the relationships that connect all things while preserving their distinct nature. \n⸻ \nSession 4 \nFrom Atoms to the Self: Matter\, Mind\, and Liberation \nDate: Thursday\, 20 August 2026 \nThe concluding session brings together Vaiśeṣika’s understanding of matter\, mind\, self\, knowledge\, and liberation\, exploring the relationship between the material world and the knowing self. \n⸻ \nDates & Times \nSession Dates \n* Thursday\, 2 July 2026\n* Thursday\, 16 July 2026\n* Thursday\, 6 August 2026\n* Thursday\, 20 August 2026 \nTime \n* 10:00 AM Eastern Time (US)\n* 7:30 PM India Standard Time (Sessions 2–4)\n* 8:30 PM India Standard Time (Session 1) \nPlease verify your local time before attending. SUMMARY:Sleep in Midlife: A Whole-Body Perspective with Tammi Sweet
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Welch and Menopause Chronicles participants as we welcome our guest instructor Tammi Sweet on Wednesday\, June 3\, 2026 at 6:00 PM Eastern Time (New York). \nSleep is one of the most common struggles women bring into midlife\, and menopause often makes it harder to ignore. In this session\, Tammi Sweet brings together her background in neurobiology\, endocrinology\, anatomy\, and herbal medicine to explore why sleep becomes so fragile at this stage of life—and what can actually help. \nDrawing from physiology as well as earth-based and herbal traditions\, Tammi will look at sleep as a whole-body process shaped by hormones\, the nervous system\, daily rhythms\, and our relationship with the natural world. Together with Dr. Claudia Welch and our Menopause Chronicles community\, she will consider practical\, grounded ways to support more reliable rest—and ask what it means to listen to the body when it keeps us awake at night. \nTammi Sweet is the co-founder and co-director of The Heartstone Center for Earth Essentials near Ithaca. For the past 30 years she has taught thousands of students in a variety of learning environments. She offers classes in herbal medicine\, along with courses in anatomy and physiology both in-person and online. Sweet holds a master’s degree in endocrinology\, and her work bridges modern science with embodied\, earth-based wisdom. \nThis live session is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership and requires an active subscription. SUMMARY:Part II: Healing Later Life Through Rhythm and Song with Drs. Claudia Welch & Shubham Kulkarni
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Welch and Dr. Shubham Kulkarni join Menopause Chronicles participants for the second of two co-facilitated sessions on Wednesday\, Feb 04\, 2026 at 10am Eastern (New York) Time. For time-zone conversion: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/. Please note this is a different time than usual for our first monthly session. Usually it is at 6pm ET. \nIn this session\, Drs. Welch and Kulkarni explore the arc of the day from afternoon to evening — a time that reflects the later stages of life. His clinical and musical work centers around mental health\, hospice care\, and healing through sound — offering music as both medicine and companion through transition. \nHow we see things matters. What we attune to — and when — can shape the quality of what comes next. \nThrough storytelling\, reflection\, and live rāga performance\, we’ll explore how rhythm and sound can help us align more fully with the present — and smooth the path forward. \nThis live gathering is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership (subscription required\, cancel anytime).

SUMMARY:The Liberating Power of Menopause with Alexandra Pope
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Welch and Menopause Chronicles participants as we welcome our guest instructor Alexandra Pope on 10am ET (New York time)\, Wednesday\, November 19 . \nMenopause is a time of great change—an ending and a new beginning—in body\, mind\, and soul. In our culture\, that change is largely seen as negative—a time of distress and suffering—and something we need saving from. What is rarely named or recognized is that menopause can be a process of awakening\, leading us into greater freedom and ease within ourselves. Menopause can liberate us to be fully ourselves. We become more powerful\, not less. \nIn this talk\, Alexandra Pope will explore the psycho-spiritual transformation that occurs through menopause\, the menopause ‘triage’—crucial actions to implement as soon as possible—and a few ground rules to support oneself mentally\, emotionally\, and physically through this transition. \nAlexandra Pope is co-director of Red School with Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer. Together\, they have developed a radical new approach to health and wellbeing\, creativity\, leadership\, and spiritual life\, based on the power of the menstrual cycle and menopause. \nThey are the co-authors of Wise Power: Discover the Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority\, Purpose and Belonging and Wild Power: Discover the Magic of Your Menstrual Cycle and Awaken the Feminine Path to Power\, bringing a collective 60 years of researching and revealing the power of the menstrual cycle and the initiatory journey from menarche to menopause. They have created a new understanding and language to describe this psychological and spiritual process and have spearheaded the emerging new field of menstruality to support all people who menstruate. \nThis session is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership and requires a subscription\, which can be canceled anytime. Learn more or join here. \nFor help with time zone conversion\, visit World Time Buddy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Women's Health Live Q&A with Dr. Welch
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome for this roughly one hour\, free\, live Q&A Zoom session with Dr. Welch\, for questions on content of either of our online courses: Women’s Health & Hormones Part I: Hormonal Balance & Stagnation or Women’s Health & Hormones Part II: Srotorodha & the 6 Therapeutic Principles\, and for participants to share our experiences with the course content & spirit. They can devolve into a conversation that doesn’t exactly respect the boundaries of that plan. \nThis call is an opportunity to support understanding and healthy directions as we resolve or explore our questions on course content and share our experiences and successes\, and to learn from others’ experiences. \nThe call is scheduled for Thursday\, Nov 06\, 2025 at 4pm ET (New York time). \nIf you are not enrolled but would like to submit questions\, you will be welcome to\, as long as you register for either of these online classes by about a week before the call. We plan to send out directions to registered students\, on how to submit questions. \nIf you can’t attend the live call\, no worries. You can listen to a recording of the call\, which we plan to post within a few business days of the live session on our Women’s Health Q&A page. \nThese sessions are not a forum for personal health questions to be asked or answered\, so those questions will not be addressed. Those are better addressed by a personal health care practitioner.

SUMMARY:Approaching Work in the Second Half of Life with Mala Kapadia
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Mala Kapadia will join Dr. Claudia Welch and the Menopause Chronicles community for a rich\, grounded conversation on vānaprastha and sannyāsa—the later āśrama stages that frame the second half of life in the Indian tradition. Joining from her Ayurvedic eco-village home in South India\, Mala will reflect on how our engagement with the world transforms as we age. Work\, family\, and service may continue\, but our orientation toward them often shifts. \nMala brings a wealth of insight drawn from decades of scholarship\, practice\, and deep integration of ancient Indian wisdom. Her recent publication\, Sukha Sutra: An Indic Wellbeing and Happiness Guide for Flourishing\, is being adapted into Higher Education curriculum in India. As Director of the Anaadi Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Systems and a leading voice in wellbeing and sustainability through indigenous psychology\, she has inspired many with her compassionate\, intellectually rigorous approach to personal and planetary flourishing. \nIn this session\, she’ll share her own journey—how community involvement\, academic pursuits\, and service have evolved in her later years\, and what these changes reveal about responsibility\, contribution\, and meaning. This is a rare opportunity to listen in on a dialogue that bridges personal narrative with cultural insight. \n🌐 Convert to your time zone: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com

DESCRIPTION:We’re grateful to welcome Marta Shedletsky as a guest instructor for two special sessions of Menopause Chronicles. Marta is a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) and experienced yoga teacher trained in Dr. Loren Fishman’s method for treating osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions with yoga. Drawing on current research and the clinical approach of Dr. Fishman\, she’ll guide us in making sense of bone health through and beyond menopause. You’ll come away with practical tools\, grounded knowledge\, and a deeper appreciation for your body’s needs. \nTo support participants’ learning\, Marta is also sharing with them a free gift: her e-book Strong Bones Through Food\, which includes clear nutrition guidance\, supportive supplements\, and a 5-day plant-based meal plan. \nDate and Time:\nWednesday\, August 6\, 2025\nLive at 7:00 PM Eastern Time\nConvert to your time zone with worldtimebuddy.com \nThis session is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership.\nMembership gives you access to live sessions\, replays\, and community resources. SUMMARY:Interconnectedness of Indian Wisdom Traditions
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join Dr. Claudia Welch and some more folks from the Satsangam family (including Kimberly Kubicke\, Erin Casperson\, Emily Glaser and Dr. Ramkumar) in the beautiful Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in Nassau\, Bahamas to explore the cultural\, spiritual\, philosophical\, scientific and artistic context in which Indian wisdom traditions like yoga and Ayurveda exist. While in the West it is common for students to quickly specialize in one or another of these traditions\, in the East there was traditionally a foundational education in multiple disciplines\, before honing in on one subject. Beginning to learn Eastern subjects in this traditionally Eastern way allows us to make new connections\, gain insights\, inspiration and depth in not only a subject we are studying but also into the interconnectedness of Indian knowledge traditions in general. This week we will explore aspects of Ayurveda\, yoga\, Jyotisha\, Vedic administration\, various concepts that relate to them all\, and how they are interconnected. \nWe will all be fed vegetarian food\, have daily yoga classes\, satsangs and sessions\, and time in the ocean and sun\, all in the harmonious environment of an ashram that welcomes all religions\, faiths\, and humans. \nContact Sivananda Ashram for reservations and questions. \nInterconnectedness of Indian Wisdom Traditions April 2025

SUMMARY:Live Q&A With Drs. Welch & Svoboda For Alumni
DESCRIPTION:Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances it is always possible we will have to move these calls. If that happens\, we will plan to update that here and through our newsletters. Thanks for your understanding. \nDr. Robert Svoboda and I offer live Q&A sessions yearly to answer questions from alumni of our “Foundations of Ayurveda Part I“\, “Part II“\, “The Planets” and\, “Pratyāhāra: Turning Attention Within” complete courses (sorry\, not for stand alone a la carte lessons). This lends a live element to those courses. \nOnce you are a registered student of one of those courses\, you will receive emails–to the email address you used to register for your course– letting you know when live calls are scheduled\, how to join them\, and be invited to submit questions on course content. If you are not a registered student\, you will still receive info on how to join if you are subscribed to our newsletter. \nWhether or not you are an alumnus of any of those courses\, you are welcome to join us live and listen to the posted recordings after the call on our Q&A Calls page\, where they are usually posted within a couple days of the call and where you will find many previous call recordings. If you haven’t taken the courses\, you might find the material a bit confusing\, as the questions and answers relate to material covered in the courses. But they may be interesting if you have studied some of these topics elsewhere. We post a summary of what was covered\, so you can see if the topics might interest you. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Role Of Paramparā & Dṛṣṭi In Education
DESCRIPTION:Learning and living within a paramparā (tradition)\, leads one to develop a certain worldview or vision of reality (dṛṣṭi)\, which informs our role and actions in the world. For two thousand years\, India saw great prosperity in part due to the prevalent individual and collective dṛṣṭi of that time. The colonial regime changed the underlying dṛṣṭi of her education system which resulted in her impoverishment at various levels. Dr. Anuradha Choudry joins us in Vedic Threads\, Satsangam’s membership-based course\, to explore the role of paramparā (tradition) & dṛṣṭi (perspective\, worldview\, vision) in ancient vs. modern education\, to consider what has been lost\, and what we might wish to restore. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads. For 35 USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 45 hours of content from previous sessions. Schedule details available on your class page after registration.

SUMMARY:Vāstu Śāstra Introduction
DESCRIPTION:There is a saying in Hindi that there are three things every human requires: food (roti)\, clothing (kapra) and shelter (makān). Where we live our lives has a great impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. Claudia Welch & Ramkumar and the Vedic Threads community to introduce us to these arts and help us consider how to apply some of this ancient knowledge in our modern lives. \nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads\, Satsangam’s membership-based course. SUMMARY:Hitāyu & Sukhāyu: Psychology of Wellbeing & Happiness
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mala Kapadia\, Director\, Interdisciplinary Research Initiatives\, Anaadi Foundation\, Palani\, Tamil Nadu\, Bharat joins Drs. Claudia Welch & Ramkumar–and Satsangam’s Vedic Threads community to discuss the following:\n\nThe pandemic era has created\, unveiled and exacerbated mental health concerns that persist. It has been a strong wake-up call to humanity. In the post-Covid\, “new normal”\, we are prompted to evaluate the strength of our health\, happiness and immunity\, and question how we are living and what indeed is and supports these things. \nAyurveda\, the science of life\, provides insights to help us explore these things. \nIt describes four possible conditions of life — āyu: hita (healthy wellbeing)\, sukha (happy) ahita (diseased) and duḥkha (unhappy). Ayurveda teaches us how to create hita āyu\, as only then can sukha āyu be experienced. Once we understand these principles\, we can apply them to collective\, global health as well as individual health. \n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For 35 USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 45 hours of content from previous sessions. Schedule details available on your class page after registration.
