SUMMARY:Part I: Healing Early Life Through Rhythm and Song with Drs. Claudia Welch & Shubham Kulkarni
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Welch and Dr. Shubham Kulkarni join Menopause Chronicles participants for the first of two co-facilitated sessions on Wednesday\, Jan 07\, 2026 at 10am Eastern (New York) Time. For time-zone conversion: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/. Please note this is a different time than usual for our first monthly session. Usually it is at 6pm ET. \nIn this session\, Drs. Welch and Kulkarni explore the arc of the day from dawn to midday — a time that reflects the first half of life. Together we’ll explore how this daily window\, paired with music composed for these times\, can help us revisit and potentially shift deeply held impressions from earlier life stages. \nDr. Shubham Kulkarni is an Ayurvedic physician\, Indian classical vocalist\, and music therapist whose work blends Āyurveda\, Gāndharva Veda\, and contemplative practice. His clinical and musical work supports mental health\, palliative care\, and end-of-life integration — offering sound as a bridge between deep tradition and modern healing needs. \nHow we see things matters. What we pay attention to — and when — can shape what becomes possible. \nThrough storytelling\, reflection\, and live rāga performance\, we’ll explore how time and sound combine to open a door to healing. \nThis live gathering is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership (subscription required\, cancel anytime).

SUMMARY:The Liberating Power of Menopause with Alexandra Pope
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Welch and Menopause Chronicles participants as we welcome our guest instructor Alexandra Pope on 10am ET (New York time)\, Wednesday\, November 19 . \nMenopause is a time of great change—an ending and a new beginning—in body\, mind\, and soul. In our culture\, that change is largely seen as negative—a time of distress and suffering—and something we need saving from. What is rarely named or recognized is that menopause can be a process of awakening\, leading us into greater freedom and ease within ourselves. Menopause can liberate us to be fully ourselves. We become more powerful\, not less. \nIn this talk\, Alexandra Pope will explore the psycho-spiritual transformation that occurs through menopause\, the menopause ‘triage’—crucial actions to implement as soon as possible—and a few ground rules to support oneself mentally\, emotionally\, and physically through this transition. \nAlexandra Pope is co-director of Red School with Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer. Together\, they have developed a radical new approach to health and wellbeing\, creativity\, leadership\, and spiritual life\, based on the power of the menstrual cycle and menopause. \nThey are the co-authors of Wise Power: Discover the Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority\, Purpose and Belonging and Wild Power: Discover the Magic of Your Menstrual Cycle and Awaken the Feminine Path to Power\, bringing a collective 60 years of researching and revealing the power of the menstrual cycle and the initiatory journey from menarche to menopause. They have created a new understanding and language to describe this psychological and spiritual process and have spearheaded the emerging new field of menstruality to support all people who menstruate. \nThis session is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership and requires a subscription\, which can be canceled anytime. Learn more or join here. \nFor help with time zone conversion\, visit World Time Buddy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Women's Health Live Q&A with Dr. Welch
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome for this roughly one hour\, free\, live Q&A Zoom session with Dr. Welch\, for questions on content of either of our online courses: Women’s Health & Hormones Part I: Hormonal Balance & Stagnation or Women’s Health & Hormones Part II: Srotorodha & the 6 Therapeutic Principles\, and for participants to share our experiences with the course content & spirit. They can devolve into a conversation that doesn’t exactly respect the boundaries of that plan. \nThis call is an opportunity to support understanding and healthy directions as we resolve or explore our questions on course content and share our experiences and successes\, and to learn from others’ experiences. \nThe call is scheduled for Thursday\, Nov 06\, 2025 at 4pm ET (New York time). \nIf you are not enrolled but would like to submit questions\, you will be welcome to\, as long as you register for either of these online classes by about a week before the call. We plan to send out directions to registered students\, on how to submit questions. \nIf you can’t attend the live call\, no worries. You can listen to a recording of the call\, which we plan to post within a few business days of the live session on our Women’s Health Q&A page. \nThese sessions are not a forum for personal health questions to be asked or answered\, so those questions will not be addressed. Those are better addressed by a personal health care practitioner.

SUMMARY:Approaching Work in the Second Half of Life with Mala Kapadia
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Mala Kapadia will join Dr. Claudia Welch and the Menopause Chronicles community for a rich\, grounded conversation on vānaprastha and sannyāsa—the later āśrama stages that frame the second half of life in the Indian tradition. Joining from her Ayurvedic eco-village home in South India\, Mala will reflect on how our engagement with the world transforms as we age. Work\, family\, and service may continue\, but our orientation toward them often shifts. \nMala brings a wealth of insight drawn from decades of scholarship\, practice\, and deep integration of ancient Indian wisdom. Her recent publication\, Sukha Sutra: An Indic Wellbeing and Happiness Guide for Flourishing\, is being adapted into Higher Education curriculum in India. As Director of the Anaadi Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Systems and a leading voice in wellbeing and sustainability through indigenous psychology\, she has inspired many with her compassionate\, intellectually rigorous approach to personal and planetary flourishing. \nIn this session\, she’ll share her own journey—how community involvement\, academic pursuits\, and service have evolved in her later years\, and what these changes reveal about responsibility\, contribution\, and meaning. This is a rare opportunity to listen in on a dialogue that bridges personal narrative with cultural insight. \n🌐 Convert to your time zone: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com

SUMMARY:Osteoporosis and Bone Health with Marta Shedletsky – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:We’re grateful to welcome Marta Shedletsky as a guest instructor for two special sessions of Menopause Chronicles. Marta is a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) and experienced yoga teacher trained in Dr. Loren Fishman’s method for treating osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions with yoga. She brings a deep passion for women’s health—especially during the forest dweller (vānaprastha) stage of life—and believes this phase offers a powerful opportunity to turn inward and care for ourselves with presence and dedication. \nIn this first session\, Marta will help us understand what osteoporosis is\, how bone loss happens\, and what we can do to prevent\, delay\, or even reverse it. Drawing on current research and the clinical approach of Dr. Fishman\, she’ll guide us in making sense of bone health through and beyond menopause. You’ll come away with practical tools\, grounded knowledge\, and a deeper appreciation for your body’s needs. \nTo support participants’ learning\, Marta is also sharing with them a free gift: her e-book Strong Bones Through Food\, which includes clear nutrition guidance\, supportive supplements\, and a 5-day plant-based meal plan. \nDate and Time:\nWednesday\, August 6\, 2025\nLive at 7:00 PM Eastern Time\nConvert to your time zone with worldtimebuddy.com \nThis session is part of the Menopause Chronicles membership.\nMembership gives you access to live sessions\, replays\, and community resources. SUMMARY:Interconnectedness of Indian Wisdom Traditions
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join Dr. Claudia Welch and some more folks from the Satsangam family (including Kimberly Kubicke\, Erin Casperson\, Emily Glaser and Dr. Ramkumar) in the beautiful Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in Nassau\, Bahamas to explore the cultural\, spiritual\, philosophical\, scientific and artistic context in which Indian wisdom traditions like yoga and Ayurveda exist. While in the West it is common for students to quickly specialize in one or another of these traditions\, in the East there was traditionally a foundational education in multiple disciplines\, before honing in on one subject. Beginning to learn Eastern subjects in this traditionally Eastern way allows us to make new connections\, gain insights\, inspiration and depth in not only a subject we are studying but also into the interconnectedness of Indian knowledge traditions in general. This week we will explore aspects of Ayurveda\, yoga\, Jyotisha\, Vedic administration\, various concepts that relate to them all\, and how they are interconnected. \nWe will all be fed vegetarian food\, have daily yoga classes\, satsangs and sessions\, and time in the ocean and sun\, all in the harmonious environment of an ashram that welcomes all religions\, faiths\, and humans. \nContact Sivananda Ashram for reservations and questions. \nInterconnectedness of Indian Wisdom Traditions April 2025

SUMMARY:Live Q&A With Drs. Welch & Svoboda For Alumni
DESCRIPTION:Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances it is always possible we will have to move these calls. If that happens\, we will plan to update that here and through our newsletters. Thanks for your understanding. \nDr. Robert Svoboda and I offer live Q&A sessions yearly to answer questions from alumni of our “Foundations of Ayurveda Part I“\, “Part II“\, “The Planets” and\, “Pratyāhāra: Turning Attention Within” complete courses (sorry\, not for stand alone a la carte lessons). This lends a live element to those courses. \nOnce you are a registered student of one of those courses\, you will receive emails–to the email address you used to register for your course– letting you know when live calls are scheduled\, how to join them\, and be invited to submit questions on course content. If you are not a registered student\, you will still receive info on how to join if you are subscribed to our newsletter. \nWhether or not you are an alumnus of any of those courses\, you are welcome to join us live and listen to the posted recordings after the call on our Q&A Calls page\, where they are usually posted within a couple days of the call and where you will find many previous call recordings. SUMMARY:The Role Of Paramparā & Dṛṣṭi In Education
DESCRIPTION:Learning and living within a paramparā (tradition)\, leads one to develop a certain worldview or vision of reality (dṛṣṭi)\, which informs our role and actions in the world. For two thousand years\, India saw great prosperity in part due to the prevalent individual and collective dṛṣṭi of that time. The colonial regime changed the underlying dṛṣṭi of her education system which resulted in her impoverishment at various levels. Dr. Anuradha Choudry joins us in Vedic Threads\, Satsangam’s membership-based course\, to explore the role of paramparā (tradition) & dṛṣṭi (perspective\, worldview\, vision) in ancient vs. modern education\, to consider what has been lost\, and what we might wish to restore. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads. For 35 USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 45 hours of content from previous sessions. SUMMARY:Vāstu Śāstra Introduction
DESCRIPTION:There is a saying in Hindi that there are three things every human requires: food (roti)\, clothing (kapra) and shelter (makān). Where we live our lives has a great impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. Claudia Welch & Ramkumar and the Vedic Threads community to introduce us to these arts and help us consider how to apply some of this ancient knowledge in our modern lives. \nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads\, Satsangam’s membership-based course. SUMMARY:Hitāyu & Sukhāyu: Psychology of Wellbeing & Happiness
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mala Kapadia\, Director\, Interdisciplinary Research Initiatives\, Anaadi Foundation\, Palani\, Tamil Nadu\, Bharat joins Drs. Claudia Welch & Ramkumar–and Satsangam’s Vedic Threads community to discuss the following:\n\nThe pandemic era has created\, unveiled and exacerbated mental health concerns that persist. It has been a strong wake-up call to humanity. In the post-Covid\, “new normal”\, we are prompted to evaluate the strength of our health\, happiness and immunity\, and question how we are living and what indeed is and supports these things. \nAyurveda\, the science of life\, provides insights to help us explore these things. \nIt describes four possible conditions of life — āyu: hita (healthy wellbeing)\, sukha (happy) ahita (diseased) and duḥkha (unhappy). Ayurveda teaches us how to create hita āyu\, as only then can sukha āyu be experienced. Once we understand these principles\, we can apply them to collective\, global health as well as individual health. \n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For 35 USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 45 hours of content from previous sessions. SUMMARY:Animal\, Plant and Agricultural Ayurveda
DESCRIPTION:These two 1.5 hour live\, online sessions (April 04 & 18\, 2024) are part of Satsangam’s Vedic Threads’ ongoing membership-based course with Drs. Welch & Ramkumar. Schedule details available on your class page after registration. \nIn the first session\, Sanjeev Kumar Kulangara is scheduled to join us. \nAlong with the 8 branches of Ayurveda that apply to humans\, we can understand that\, depending on the teacher\, there are 2 or 3 other branches: one covers agriculture or farming (kṛṣi Ayurveda); one plants & trees (vṛkṣa Ayurveda)\, and one animals (mṛga or paśu Ayurveda). (Alternatively\, we could understand there is just mṛga or paśu Ayurveda and kṛṣi Ayurveda–which covers plants\, trees and agriculture). There are some sub-branches for specialization of mṛga or paśu Ayurveda for some animals– like Ashwa Ayurveda for horses\, and Gaja Ayurveda for elephants. \nThere is a subset of these various branches of Ayurveda that join them together\, working symbiotically to benefit all\, without inflicting any violence on animals. This is called\, go adharid kṛṣi or\, cow-based agriculture. According to the principles outlined by\, “father of agriculture\,” Subhash Palekar\, there are 3 factors necessary for success in this method: 1. Health; 2. Mindset and\, 3. Native cattle. Together they yield\, “zero-budget” farming practices that nourish the land\, cows\, other animals\, and humans. \nSanjeev Kumar Kulangara has worked with these practices for seven years. He learned from his guru ji\, Swami Nirmalananda Giri Maharaj\, and continues to learn with masters of these methods as he works with of the Ayurveda eco-village vaidyagrama’s cows—and other animals– in Tamil Nadu\, India. Here he protects and nurtures rare breeds of cows\, including anaganmala kulan—a breed of small cows from Anaganmala—that number only around 200 in the world. \nSanjeev ji joins us in Vedic Threads to share these practices and provide a window into the inspiring results\, using real-life examples.

It is believed to be somewhere between a thousand and two thousand years old. Its complex beliefs and practices belong exclusively to families of hereditary practitioners. As soon as the designated theyyakkaran – a word literally meaning a Theyyam man – completes the required preliminaries he will call the formless deity down from heaven. It is then that the theyyak \nkaran ‘carries’ the deity by conceptually providing him – or her – with a body and therefore the ability to interact with their devotees. While every Theyyam deity must follow their assigned rituals\, they invariably dance to express their joy at interacting with the devotees who flock to receive their blessings. This is an important aspect of Theyyam\, and explains why it draws people. While some may approach simply to receive the deity’s blessings\, others will seek answers to their troubles\, an interaction that often involves serious one-to-one discussions. \nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For 35USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 40 hours of content from previous sessions.

SUMMARY:Abhinavagupta & Lal Ded (Lalleshvari): Mystic Poets in Daily Life

Schedule details available on your class page after registration. \nThese February sessions are dedicated to Abhinavagupta and Lal Ded. \nAbhinavagupta was a living example of the value of the study of multiple disciplines\, as he studied the schools of philosophy and art of his time under the guidance of as many as fifteen (or more) teachers and gurus. SUMMARY:Itihāsa (History): The Role of Storytelling in Modern Times
DESCRIPTION:These two 1.5 hour live\, online sessions (January 4 & 18\, 2024) are part of Satsangam’s Vedic Threads’ ongoing membership-based course with Drs. Ramkumar & Welch. Schedule details available on your class page after registration.\n\nThese January sessions are dedicated to itihāsa.\n\nIn India\, the word for\, “history” is\, “itihāsa ” (iti hā āsa\, “it was indeed thus”). It also is used to specifically refer to the two monumentally influential epic poems of ancient India: the Mahābhāratam (which includes the Bhagavad Gītā) and the Rāmāyaṇa. The very fact that the word itihāsa is used in a context where\, in the West we might use “mythology”\, “epic”\, “story” or\, “poem” can lead us into curious conversation. Is there a difference between history and a story that has been told for millennia? What exactly was documented in itihāsa\, and how does it differ from what we have come to understand as history in the West? What was significant or\, indeed\, memorable about a remembered “event” in India? Fred Smith has been translating the last five (of eighteen) books of the unabridged Mahabharata for several years and is the chief editor of an international consortium of scholars undertaking this translation (to be published by Primus Books in Delhi).  He joins Drs. Ramkumar and Claudia and Vedic Threads participants to talk about the role of ancient storytelling in modern life. This session is a prelude to –hopefully–a live Satsangam live storytelling event in May 2024 in New Mexico.\n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 40 hours of content from previous sessions.

SUMMARY:Bhāva & Bhāvana: Inner and Outer Expression of Emotion
DESCRIPTION:These two 1.5 hour live\, online sessions (December 07 & 21\, 2023) are part of Satsangam’s Vedic Threads’ ongoing membership-based course with Drs. Ramkumar & Welch. Schedule details available on your class page after registration.\n\nIn these December sessions\, Simran Lal joins us to talk about bhāva and bhāvana. One could say that bhāva and bhāvana is what makes this world go round.  Everything in this manifested world begins with a thought; Everything is a manifestation of our intentions. Bhāva is one’s inner world – intentions\, feelings\, desires; and bhāvana is the outer expression of those – in what we say\, how we express ourselves\, how we conduct ourselves in society.  Yogis advise us to align our bhāva with our bhāvana (what in modern day parlance is what we call ‘authenticity’)\, and to make them śuddha (pure).  Our persistent thoughts and the way we perceive the world shape us.  To refine them (make them śuddha) is the birthright\, and the highest aim of each of us.\n\n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 40 hours of content from previous sessions.

SUMMARY:Exploring Vāyu (movement of life force)\, Bhāva (emotion) and Rasa (flavor) Through Performance
DESCRIPTION:These two 1.5 hour live\, online sessions (November 02 & 16\, 2023) are part of Satsangam’s Vedic Threads’ ongoing membership-based course with Drs. Ramkumar & Welch. Schedule details available on your class page after registration.\n\nIn these two sessions\, we are joined by Kapila Venu ji\, a practitioner of Kutiyattam (“Koodiyattam”)\, – one of the oldest living theatre traditions in the world. SUMMARY:Varṇa: Shifting Colour over the Course of a Lifetime with Drs. Ramkumar & Welch
DESCRIPTION:These two 1.5 hour live\, online sessions (October 05 & 19\, 2023) are part of Satsangam’s Vedic Threads’ ongoing membership-based course with Drs. Ramkumar & Welch. Schedule details available on your class page after registration. \nThese October sessions are dedicated to addressing questions from Vedic Threads participants. The first questions is: How does each varṇa (often translated as\, “caste”) express itself in each of our lives? \nThe four varṇas\, along with their functions are as follows: \n\nśūdraor follower: The function is śuśrūṣaṇa or seva=service. Tamas (the heavy\, inert of the three mahā guṇas—great qualities) is said to predominate. But certainly we can perform service with a sattvic (the peaceful\, clear of the three mahā guṇas—great qualities) outlook as well\, that allows us to reach a higher state. Good followers.\nvaiśyaor businessman: The function is poṣaṇa=nourishment; to nourish and create wealth for the community. Rajas (the active of the three mahā guṇas—great qualities) with secondarily sattva\, if the abundance they create goes to support their community\,–or sometimes secondarily tamas if wealth is just hoarded.\nkṣatriyaor warrior: The function is pālana =protection. Rajas predominant with sattva\, or sattva predominant with rajas.\nbrāhmaṇaor preceptor. The function is dhāraṇam=support of the community. Predominates in sattva. Advises kṣatriya and prays for the welfare of the community\n\nIn this session\, we hope to share and hear from many of the participants of Vedic Threads about how each of these varṇas manifest in each of our lives. \nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on these themes\, in our twice-monthly Vedic Threads membership-based course. For USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs.
