When a mother is depleted, her son often carries it — showing up as dysregulation, aggression, or a vulnerability to the wrong influences. In this free online conversation, three practitioners come together to explore the link between maternal nervous system health and the emotional development of boys, drawing on Eastern medicine, somatic wisdom, and decades of work with young people.
Dr. Claudia Welch, a educator in Ayurveda, Doctor of Oriental Medicine and author of Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life, will speak to how women’s depletion patterns — what Ayurveda calls yin depletion — shape the households and children around them. Courtney LaCava, an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Somatic Guide with 25 years of experience, will share how mothers can restore their own vitality while raising resilient sons, bridging ancestral practice with modern parenting. Mark Morey, who has spent 60 years developing human-potential and nature-based programs — including 18 years leading boys’ initiation rites through the Vermont Wilderness School and Art of Mentoring — will bring the perspective of community, mentorship, and rites of passage.
Together they’ll discuss mothering from “Source energy” rather than stress energy, why community-based rites of passage matter for boys, and practical ways women can begin restoring themselves — not just for their own sake, but for the sake of the sons they’re raising.
This conversation is for mothers of boys, and for practitioners who work with women and want a deeper understanding of the connection between maternal health and child development.
