Practitioner’s Roundtable with Dr. Claudia Welch

March 19, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

$80 – $140

Please note that you can join us online as well as in-person….

This is an event for health-care practitioners. In this informal, interactive, practitioner-oriented day of conversation, Dr. Claudia Welch may explore questions presented by participants as well as some issues from her new book How the Art of Medicine Makes The Science More Effective: Becoming the Medicine We Practice.  This book is organized around ancient Ayurveda’s assertion that there are four qualities essential to becoming an effective physician: excellence in theoretical knowledge, extensive practical experience, dexterity and purity. The book uses this premise to explore issues like how we know what we know, the role of prediction in medicine, the mechanics of emotional contagion, the reality of who affects whom and other fascinating questions.

What we will cover: Your questions. Bring questions for discussion. These can be questions about patients, practice, issues covered in Dr. Welch’s books, or other health care-practice-related questions. This entire day will be dedicated to your questions. If there are no questions, Dr. Welch will cover practitioner-related issues introduced in her books or that occur to her in the moment.
Who can come: This is a day for health care practitioners only. If you are not a health care practitioner, we welcome you to Dr. Welch’s talk on dinacharya at the Open Center (an event that is also open to –and hopefully very helpful for health care practitioners). In this roundtable, we may build on some information presented at the Open Center the night before so, if you can come to both, great.
What to wear: Pajamas, tuxedos and ball gowns, or anything in between. Whatever helps you feel comfortable.
What to bring: Yourself and questions, if you have them. If you don’t have any, perhaps make one up.
